How to find clients on LinkedIn

11 strategies and hacks on how to find clients on LinkedIn and grow your customer base

In this article, you will discover how to find clients on LinkedIn. These tips come from my research and marketing actions on this professional network.

Without further ado, let’s discover my tips.

1 – Create a profile consistent with your offer and the client you want to help

In order to create an effective LinkedIn profile, you need to clarify your main business offer and the type of customer you want to target.

If you need some basic information to create your profile, I invite you to read my article on how to create an effective LinkedIn profile.

For the purposes of this article, your goal is to develop your customer base and increase your sales.

Even if you have several areas of expertise and you offer many services, on LinkedIn, focus on a single offer that meets a specific need of one type of client.

This choice will allow you to communicate a single message consistent with the needs of the people who need you.

You don’t need to fill in every section of your profile.

The key is to create consistency between a text that expresses what type of client you help and your LinkedIn profile banner that will better and visually clarify what you specifically provide to others.

2 – Showcase your expertise

You can’t sell to everyone but you can attract to you the people who need your expertise.

You can show your expertise in several ways.

For example, you can create content related to your expertise and share it with your contacts.

Try to create multiple formats for your content, such as writing articles and making videos.

The people who respond positively to your posts are the ones you will try to move on to the next step, which is to set up a phone or video call with them to offer your services.

Communicating via video is often a better alternative because it allows you to better simulate a face-to-face meeting and to more easily establish trust with your prospect.

3 – Spread your content more

You can promote your content in several ways, for example:

  • send an individual message to each of your contacts
  • search by keyword for content relevant to your business and share your content with people who have liked content similar to yours
  • join groups where your potential customers are and share different formats of your content
  • publish your content in groups of which you are a member or in your own group

These strategies will be very useful to increase your business’ exposure.

4 – Identify your ideal clients

Create buyer personas based on the type of customer who is likely to be interested in the services you provide.

In practice, you imagine all the characteristics and life of this person by highlighting their personal and professional situation, their needs, desires, and fears.

You can also create these hypothetical clients from the real profile of your current or past clients.

If you don’t have any customers, you can create these fictitious people from the real profiles of people who like or share your content.

The important thing is to have a clearer vision of your prospects in order to better adapt your offer to their needs.

5 – Create polls and share them in groups

You can share your survey in the news feed, but if you post a survey on a topic relevant to the group you’ve targeted, you’ll get a lot more responses and engagement. As a result, you’ll reach more potential customers.

Surveys are effective in increasing the visibility of your content, but before you create a survey, you need to attract the people who need your expertise.

First, you need to create content that is useful to your potential clients.

As you read in the second tip, your goal is to build your expertise

Then, you will create your survey by highlighting part or all of an article or video that will be useful and appreciated by your audience.

If your survey is interesting and people respond favorably, you can send a message to each person who seems to need your content and perhaps your expertise.

Then, you will contact these people again to give you feedback on your content to improve it.

Finally, you will ask them to talk to you about their goals and professional situation.

6 – Expand your network for free

If you don’t have a premium profile you can still continue to expand your network for free.

First option

Imagine you want to send a message to someone but you can’t write to them or you don’t want to send them a contact request, you have another solution.

You just need to :

  • go and see in their profile if they are part of a group
  • join this group
  • search for their name and surname once your registration to the group has been accepted

Following this procedure, you will be able to send them one or more messages.

Second option

You have the possibility to send free messages even to some premium customers.

Just check if the lock symbol is not there and you will be able to easily send a message to those people.

7 – Create a lead magnet

A lead magnet is a form of content that addresses a specific problem of the customers you are targeting.

It can be an ebook, a video, or any other form of content on the internet.

The key to creating an effective lead magnet is to know the needs of the people you are targeting.

This will allow you to offer them content that helps them better deal with a specific issue that is important to them.

On LinkedIn, the best way to attract your ideal clients is to post your lead magnet in groups that your ideal clients are in.

If you don’t know how to create a lead magnet, I invite you to read my article on this subject.

8 – Create a company page

This strategy is effective especially if you want to create awareness for your brand.

The problem is that when you post content on this page, it is not possible to share your content with other people.

Fortunately, a solution exists.

Simply switch from your admin view to your member view and that way you can share your content with your profile or with another company page for which you are an admin.

9 – Use hashtags

Hashtags allow you to become more effective on LinkedIn

For example, you type the # sign and then the keyword attached to it without spaces.

Once you have found a hashtag relevant to your business, you can use it to increase the visibility of your posts.

All you have to do is visit the profiles of people who have interacted with content similar to yours and get in touch with them.

10 – Study the content strategy of your competitors

You can check out the content your competitors are creating and sharing on LinkedIn.

Once you are on your competitor’s profile, just look at their activity on LinkedIn from selected content.

Doing this will allow you to understand the type of content they are sharing and therefore the strategy they are putting in place to promote themselves.

Getting this done, will also enable you to see the people who interact with their content and the hashtags they use.

11 – Use pop-ups on your website

In tip number 3, I explained the importance of sharing as much of your content as possible.

When it comes to the content you provide on your website and especially the written content, if you want to attract people who need your expertise, I recommend you place pop-ups on your website.

For example, you can create a pop-up where you offer your lead magnet in exchange for an e-mail address.

What is key is to offer something that goes deeper into a specific aspect of the general topic that is covered by the content you shared on LinkedIn.
